John Whitehead

John has lived an interesting life full of a range of fascinating experiences - including a career as a senior detective in the Victorian Police Force - his adventures included a posting as close personal bodyguard of Indian Prime Minister Indira Ghandi during her 10-day visit for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 1981.

He has also worked with remote Aboriginal Communities in Kalumburu (Kimberley coast) and Balgo Hill (Great Sandy - Tanami Desert region)

Now John has settled in Hay, a place he enjoys and has dubbed, "The Riviera of the Riverina" - his wit and humour have already earned him the title "Sir Basil of Booligal" and "Father Fox"... but that's another story!

Margaret McNamara

Margaret spent several years involved in community – related work with youth, people with disabilities and the elderly, where she gained valuable insight into the different values that diversity brings to society.

Ten years ago she reached a turning point, packed her four wheel drive and headed into outback Australia.

Returning from this journey she studied Fine Art and became a full time studio based artist in Sydney. The three month stay in the desert became the catalyst for her artistic career.

Margaret now resides in Hay with John.
